My Idol Rant
April 7, 2010Ok, so American Idol is in its 9th season. Dang. That’s almost as long as the Cosby Show….or Full House… or Friends… That’s pretty awesome for a show that isn’t taken as seriously now as it used to be. I still feel silly admitting it’s a guilty pleasure for me to watch because of the idea behind the whole thing. I mean, we’re all living in a generation that gets what it wants, and PRONTO. We have a way to make someone a star, PRONTO. That’s cool! And we’ve been enjoying it for 9 seasons.
Here’s the ‘But’: American Idol doesn’t always work. Isn’t that strange? Why is that? America voted, for crying out loud! This is what the people wanted! (Unlike the folks in Washington…) The American people are heard in this competition!
We have names/voices like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, David Cook & Kris Allen that got their start on American Idol. But not every name that was chosen to be “Idol” winner really won. Why haven’t we heard much from Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, or Taylor Hicks? In contrast, many who didn’t get the “Idol” title have done really well, in fact, better that the winners (almost)
Example: Daughtry, Josh Gracin, Vanessa Hudgens, Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, Kellie Pickler, Katherine McPhee, & Bucky Covington
To sum up it all up… If you get into the Top 10 of American Idol, chances are –if you’ve got what it takes– you’ll end up being a star anyway.
Oh, and I think that Kara DioGuardi is kind of a snob. Sorry, Kara, at least Simon knows he’s arrogant. I don’t think Kara realizes how she comes across to these sweet people who are trying to share their talent with the world. Maybe I’m mistaking her strong opinions as being a know it all. She guest starred on Jimmy Fallon the other day and was so snobby to him. Jimmy is one of the most enthusiastic, caring talk show hosts i’ve seen and of course he was a gentleman. She is very passionate, and definitely gives good advice, and knows her way around the music industry and songwriting… But seriously. She needs some humble pie. It’s like when people don’t really care that she’s famous and they treat her normally, she gets uppity and offended. Snobby. It’s like she’s still trying to prove she’s qualified. I don’t like it.
Ellen has fit in quite nicely next to Randy. She brings much needed humor to the show. Sometimes, though, she doesn’t have any good constructive critisicm or advice. But she is similar to Paula in that she is incredibly encouraging. But she is just a filler judge, like Randy.
I think Randy gets ignored sometimes because he is the oldest. And he always gives his opinion first. It’s almost as if the Idol producers think they are saving the best for last…Simon. Which, as much as I would hate to encourage his ego any more, Simon does give the best advice. And his opinions usually hold up. And he doesn’t care how low his V-neck’s go. You’d think he always had a temperature or something. Gross.
But, to get to the real point… my favorite contestant for season 9 has to be……
LEE DEWYZE
And one of my favorite songs …..
-Peace,
Jess
(BTW…He totally won. Score.)
